Taverna O Pissas, Stilos, Apokoronas

Stilos is a lovely little village renowned for its fresh-water springs, huge spreading plane trees and the nearby Diktamos Gorge. It is also well known by the locals for its great range of traditional tavernas offering tasty and appetizing food.
Taverna O Pissas is one of our favourites in Stilos, especially on a Sunday when they serve their wonderful pork, chicken and lamb from the spit. The pork is to die for, with a beautiful crusty crackling that you don't often get in Crete, and the taste sensation it gives is something that definitely has to be experienced. The chicken too has a perfect crispy skin that will have you licking your fingers and looking for more. You can order this Sunday souvla (from the spit) by the kilo or by the portion. The portions come with fried potatoes (useful to know if you are unsure whether to have a side portion of fries) whilst if you buy by the kilo you get just the meat.

The xorta and salads are huge and again are bursting with freshness and flavour and any of their selections from the menu are recommended.
Taverna O Pissas also manages to serve some excellent local red and white wine which perfectly complements the traditional food. The best thing about O Pissas, and Stilos, is the fact that this is a village where the locals come to visit and eat. Everything about the area oozes the charm that Crete has to offer and the scenery is amazing too. From the White Mountains with their snow capped peaks in Winter, to the bubbling, fresh spring-water that is year round, Stilos is a must visit place if you are in the Chania region...and O Pissas must be your taverna of choice too!
