VOUKOLIES

The town of Voukolies is often overlooked by many visitors to the region as just another small town to drive through on the way to Paleochora on the south coast. This is a shame as the town, and the surrounding villages, have such great character that it is worthwhile stopping for a while and enjoying the tastes, sounds and smells of a real Cretan working town.

Close by is the World Heritage Site of Vouves which boasts one of the World's oldest surviving olive trees and to be able to touch this 3,000 year old tree is a marvel in itself.
