CHANIA

Chania, the jewel of Crete is possibly the prettiest city of the island (although Rethymno is a very close second) and has a wonderful mix of historic architecture that showcases its past. The narrow cobbled streets that lead to the Venetian Harbour draw the visitor into a shaded haven from the heat and where small tavernas and restaurants spring as if from nowhere to entice you in.

The harbour is awash with places to eat but do come with a premium because of their stunning views of the Venetian lighthouse and old buildings that line the pretty waters. Take a few minutes to explore beyond the harbour and you will find places that offer you excellent value and great food in buildings that could date back to the 17th century.

The modern side of the city reveals a vibrant culture that people of all ages will enjoy, whether it is for the shopping, the colourful night-life or sleek eateries with clean lines and bright interiors that epitomize the youthful Cretan outlook that runs through all age groups.
