Mythos Bar and Restaurant, Maleme, 73014
Lunch by the sea.
We had a gentle stroll out today and called for a shot of lunch at Mythos Bar and Restaurant on the beachfront at Maleme. The sun was hot and shining brightly yet we were cooled by the nice gentle breeze from the sea whilst sat under jacaranda trees in the welcome shade they provide.
It's not the first time we have visited Mythos; we have eaten there several times but after a fairly poor service on the last occasion, due I think to it being the waiters first day on the job, thought it only fair to give Mythos another try.
The menu is extensive and varied and on the whole reasonable in price. The most expensive dish on the menu is a kilo of lobster, but then that would be expensive anywhere.
We have visited in cooler months where the facilities inside are lovely, but to enjoy sitting on the beach front and watching the waves beats sitting at a desk having a tin of soup for lunch any day.
We chose pizza (cooked in a wood fired oven) and a Caesar salad to share. The pizzas which are about 12 inch in diameter are more than enough to share for lunch. The bill for the pizza, Caesar salad, bread, three large beers, a half kilo, or as we were corrected in a nice way, half a litre of white wine and a sprite came to €31.
We were then served with fresh melon and a complimentary drink and then, when we went to pay, the hubby was given another drink described as "one for the men".
PROS You have to go and make your own mind up.
The waiter explained to us that the pizza oven was only just getting up to temperature so we could have a wait of 25 mins or so but whose complaining about that.
The taverna has a lovely children's play area. CONS The pizza could have been ready a bit before it was brought to the table because although delicious it was not piping hot.
