Laganon Italian Restaurant - 69 Daskalogianni, Chania
A bright and airy, modern interior welcomes you to Laganon and watching the chef as he makes your dishes in the open kitchen adds a great spectacle to a great meal.
We really put the chef at Laganon to the test when we visited Laganon as there were 10 of us who all ordered at the same time. As we weren't the only customers in the restaurant, he was already working away as our orders were taken and the smells and dishes being produced were fantastic. With a range of pizzas by the slice or whole, pasta dishes where you choose the flavours you want alongside your choice of pasta and superb salads, Laganon offers so much...and it delivers.

The special dish of the day on our visit was Lasagna Bolognese; luckily for me as it is my favourite dish. The taste was amazing with just the right balance of herbs to compliment the bolognese sauce. My only criticism would be I would have liked a little more of the wonderful meaty sauce in the filling, but that is a minor suggestion as it was wonderful to eat. The pizzas are thin based and you can order from a wide choice of toppings. I am sure you can even ask to get your favourite toppings and have a unique pizza made for you as nothing seems too much trouble for the guys at Laganon.
The pasta dishes were so good that the huge plates of food didn't last long enough for me to get a decent picture and judging by the empty plates of everyone who uses Laganon, not just us, the food goes down a treat as well with all nationalities. There were definitely no complaints about the quality or the portion sizes of the dishes and if you have to wait a few minutes for your food to arrive it is worth it, especially as you are watching the chef cook it right before your eyes. Watching the spectacular cooking is a delight in itself, there is a little bit of showmanship with flames shooting high into the air from the pans at times, but the smiles on the restaurant goers and the smile from the chef shows how much everyone enjoys it.

If you don't fancy the carbs of pizza or pasta then the fresh salads from Laganon will fill you up without a doubt. The rocket salad, with shaves of parmesan, cherry tomatoes and walnut was a favourite and the Ceasar salad got the two thumbs up treatment as well.
Dessert was only an option for those with a larger appetite than myself but when the special of the day, a bitter chocolate cake with ice cream and strawberries was delivered to the hungry few, well we all suddenly found a spoon to dig in and unfortunately for those that ordered the dessert, they found themselves sharing a deliciously rich chocolate delight.
PROS Food is fantastic and cannot be faulted for taste, portion size and its great value.
Watching your food being cooked is part of the spectacle of the evening.
Drinks are good value.
CONS
As we were a large group the only table with enough seats meant that half of the group had 'proper' chairs (with seat backs) and half of us had only stools. As Laganon is more of a 'rock up and eat' type of place, this is fine for a sitting of around an hour, but any longer and it would be nice to be able to sit back and relax after such a glorious and filling meal.
OVERALL CONCLUSION
If you want tasty Italian food that doesn't cost the earth then Laganon Italian Restaurant ticks all the boxes. Try and get a table opposite the kitchen area for the best seats and to watch the chef hard at work.
